You might have already read about my previous micellar water experiment, but I felt like it was kinda sticky, probably from the few percent of glycerin I put in it, so I wanted to improve my recipe.youtube.com I also have several surfactants to try, so I think I will have a little series of micellar water posts. This one will be using caprylyl/capryl glucoside as the surfactant.youtube.com I still haven't learned to start simple, as you will see in this post. Micellar water, as the name implies, is mostly water, with some surfactant added in at a sufficient concentration to form micelles. That "sufficient concentration" I refer to is different for each surfactant, and in chemistry is referred to as the critical micellization concentration, or the CMC. More on that in a later post.

Micellar waters also contain things to make them nice for your skin, and also preservative(s) so they don't start looking like kombucha and/or give you a nasty infection. The recipe I invented this time included water with 1% caprylyl/capryl glucoside and 1% or less of the following: hydrolyzed oats (general niceness), allantoin (occlusive), propylene glycol (dirt solvent/moisturizer), xylitol (for slip), lactic acid (exfoliation), and Optiphen Plus (preservative). I pre-boiled the distilled water, and mixed everything together, and that was it. It was waaay sudsier than I expected, including foaming up a bit on the cotton pad and on the skin when used. Perhaps my surfactant concentration is too high, as this is way too foamy and feels too much like a rinse-off cleanser. Also it stings when I use it. Initially I thought that was from the lactic acid, but given that I can use 10% lactic acid gel with less stinging, I was suspicious. Upon further experimentation, I believe my face is sensitive to the Optiphen.

The commitment of Micellar Water is that it will help to remove and cleanse many different type of make-up, whether it is water proof, washable, or long wearing for example. It will not sting the eyes or lips when using it, and it will not dry your skin afterwards. There are no scents or fragrance, you will not need any type of rinsing afterwards, and the beauty is that it will not adversely affect acne-prone skin. As a matter of fact, it can help you if you have that type of problem, because it will definitely leave your face feeling clean and oil-free. Many of the reviews that we have heard about Micellar Water have been unbelievably positive. For a skin cleansing product that relies on out of the norm ingredients you may want to check out Oil Cleansing. What do you think? Does Micellar Water work or not?

Finding makeup stains on your clothing can be a nightmare to wash off. But there are every day household items you never knew could erase any spills or imperfections your cosmetic products have caused. Australian review website Beauty Heaven has shared some very surprising tricks to remove the most stubborn makeup stains for good. If you're one of the millions of women around the world who often find foundation stains around the collar of your clothing, try using shampoo. One woman suggested the sooner you use shampoo on the marks, the more effective this method is. Other beauty fans have suggested if the stain still doesn't seem to be budging, try adding a little alcohol or even shaving cream.

Look stylish and save the planet! The ultimate girls' night in! Share 30 shares For mascara, lipstick and foundation stains, Deb said she usually soaks the area with micellar water or eye makeup remover for 10 minutes and then pop it into the wash. Or if the stain has just happened, a (non oil-based) makeup removing wipe or cotton pad soaked in micellar water dabbed onto the area works well to quickly remove any marks,' she said. Liz said dishwashing liquid works wonders for removing all makeup stains. Pop some dishwashing liquid onto the stain (as soon as it happens) and rub together the material with some water until it dissolves out,' she said. If you find hair dye on your clothing after a DIY, Rachel suggested spraying hairspray over the stains, and then just wash in the washing machine as usual. Sarah said if you get hair dye on your skin, toothpaste with with abrasive properties such as bicarb soda works well to remove marks. Rub it on the stain for about 30 seconds and rinse away. If the stain remains slightly, repeat until it disappears,' she said.

Bastille Day is Saturday, July 14, and to celebrate France’s national day, we’re dedicating the week to the very best French things. The souvenir I’m most likely to bring home from any trip is a new zit, especially if there’s air travel on the itinerary. So imagine my joy when I returned to New York after six flights and two weeks of vacation without a single new friend on my cheek or chin. For that miracle, I thank the Sensibio Mask from Bioderma. You might know the French pharmacy brand best for their cult-y micellar water, but as our own Rio Viera-Newton recently noted, they do so much more, including lip balms, eye creams, even a deodorant, and, of course, this soothing mask.

The Sensibio Mask is billed as an "intense soothing and moisturizing treatment," and it’s deeply gentle on my acne-prone, sensitive skin. You apply a "thick layer" of product to a freshly cleansed face then let it sit there for about ten minutes before wiping off the excess with a cotton pad, like an old-school cold cream. And since sleeping masks often leave my skin greasy, albeit moisturized, the first time I slathered it on in the comfort of my own home, I wasn’t expecting much. But the next morning, I was genuinely surprised by the practically instant results. My acne-marked skin was noticeably calmer and less inflamed, and my cheeks even seemed plumper, more hydrated than before. I brought the Sensibio Mask with me to a bachelorette party in Nashville and used it at the end of an especially long night.

When I woke up, I had hydrated, barely hungover-looking skin, despite the southern heat and tequila sweating from my pores. I next used the mask on a red-eye flight to Paris. After boarding the plane, cleaning my hands with sanitizer and my face with wipes, I applied the scentless cream and pulled down my eye mask to go to sleep. When I landed at Charles de Gaulle, seven hours later, and made my way through customs, my skin felt soft and even looked — dare I say it — dewy, with not a pimple in sight. And over the next ten days of vacation, the Sensibio mask became my secret weapon.

"Weleda Skin Food is an all-purpose, completely natural moisturizer that I now keep in threes: bedside, car, and purse," writes Stephanie Danler, who swears by this Swiss cream to keep her skin looking luminous, even while on the road. "I’ve used it to heal scrapes and burns while camping; to calm frizzy hair; and to spot-treat cuticles, elbows, and heels. Our beauty writer Rio Viera-Newton pops these eye patches on about an hour before landing to help her look refreshed after a long-haul flight. "They help hydrate and bring circulation to my under-eye bags, which are always worsened on long-haul flights.

There are loads of micellar waters on the market now - but do you know what micellar water is and how you should be using it? What is micellar water? Micellar water is a liquid that mostly looks like water, but don’t be fooled - it’s a little more high tech than that. Where does micellar water come from? Even though micellar water has only been a common beauty product in the last decade or so, it’s been around in France for ages. Back in the day, plumbing in France wasn’t quite up to scratch and the water was exceptionally harsh, and French women needed a solution. Rumour has it many French women (and men) still won’t rinse their faces with tap water to this day.

How does micellar water work? When micellar water is applied to the skin, dirt, oil and make-up are attached to the micelles and are removed from your skin in this way. How should you use micellar water? Apply micellar water to cotton wool and wipe it over your skin until it’s clean. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to rinse your skin afterwards. What are the benefits of using micellar water? Let’s start with a very obvious one - micellar water is convenient to use. You don’t need water, a basin, a face cloth or a towel - you only need the product and some cotton wool. While we’re on the topic of convenience - micellar water is much gentler on your skin than facial wipes.

It contains gentler ingredients, and is more likely to be free from or contain lower concentrations of potential skin irritants like fragrance and alcohol. Despite its name, micellar water is waterless. So if you’re trying to save water, it’s a great option. Micellar water is a good option if a no-rinse method has been prescribed by your dermatologist. Water sounds very benign, but it can be drying if your skin barrier or acid mantle is impaired. Micellar water can help to keep your skin’s pH balance healthy. Harsh cleansers (as well as the rinsing that go with them) can disrupt your skin’s pH level, which in turn compromises your skin’s protective barrier.

This affects your skin in multiple ways, including dryness, redness and breakouts. Are all micellar waters the same? To be honest, standard micellar waters are fairly similar. I once had bits and pieces leftover and filled a big bottle with four different versions and couldn’t notice a difference if my life depended on it.youtube.com There are, however, different variations for different skin types where you’ll definitely notice a difference, so if you have oily, dry or sensitive skin, look for one suited to your skin type. Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Water, R89,95 (Clicks, Dis-Chem), is a bi-phase liquid. I love it because it’s the best of both worlds - it has the power of an oil-based make-up remover, but it leaves your skin feeling fresh, clean, and free from residue.

It’s also great for fragile skin or eyes as you need much less elbow grease to get the job done. Avene Cleanance Micellar Water, R300 (Clicks, Dis-Chem), reduces excess oil and is also suitable for sensitive skin, which makes it great for inflamed acne skin. Can micellar water replace traditional cleanser? Many people have replaced all cleansing with micellar water and report great benefits from doing so. I’m not comfortable doing so as I’m just not convinced it cleans 100% as well as a cream- or oil-based cleanser. It’s definitely a safe and healthy option for your skin, so there’s no reason why you can’t at least try it and see if it works for you.

After using Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant for over two months, it is time for me to do a review on it. The reason I bought Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant is because it is designed for sensitive skin. This foaming wash has a smooth and rich gel texture. It does foam up a little, though it is not a thick lather. My skin does not feel squeaky clean after use. It leaves the skin feeling comfortable and not tight.youtube.com I imagine this Bioderma Gel Moussant will work well for those with normal or dry skin type. The packaging of this cleanser comes in their signature Bioderma Sensibio pink.

The bottle is translucent so you can see how much product you have left. The pump dispenser can be conveniently locked to prevent spillage; this is especially handy for traveling. I had high hopes for this Bioderma Gel Moussant since I am a HUGE fan of Bioderma H20 (Cleansing Water). For some unknown reason, my skin will have bumps after using this product. I tested to verify whether it was really Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant that triggered the adverse reaction. I stopped using this product for a few days and then the bumps disappeared. When I started using it again, bumps appeared again. Conclusion: Bioderma Gel Moussant does not work for my skin. Unfortunately, this foaming well would not be a repurchase for me.

Nivea micellar waters come in several varieties - for normal skin, for dry skin and sensitive skin. I use micellar water for normal skin.youtube.com Micellar water also come in bottles of 200 ml and 400 ml. Price of the 400 ml packaging is 385 RSD, which is considerably less than Eucerin. Micellar water also contains Gluco-Glycerol that moisturizes, as well as vitamin E and castor oil ([https://biodermaindia.com/product-category/sensibio/ micellar water for sensitive skin] has no perfume and contains additional grape seed oil, and micellar water for dry skin contains extra almond oil). As far as the cleansing goes, this micellar water works quite well, but it is a little weaker than Eucerin. Since it takes a little more rubbing to remove makeup, I must admit that my skin sometimes burns a little and feels tight.
