Nowadays flashlights come in several different types, each serving a purpose of its own. One of the top sellers currently for running headlamps has one of the brightest lights available. This extremely bright Budget AA flashlight gets almost 450 lumens from 1 AA eneloop battery. Despite all of our battery-testing experience, we had no idea what to expect; these batteries are not made to be worn down so quickly, and the electric motors aren't made to run on this type of battery either.

If you don't have access to batteries or electricity for recharging, you'll still be able to light your way with a hand-crank flashlight. Tactical and rechargeable flashlights use smaller batteries that hold a smaller charge, so their runtime is anywhere from 1-5 hours.

Some flashlights come with light filters that you can put over the top of the flashlight so it will shine another colour, or have inbuilt coloured LEDs. First flashlights did not sell too well because of the behaviors of batteries and because carbon-filament electric bulbs were inefficient.

For AA batteries, we tested eight brands in new, single-battery Coast flashlights We sealed each one into a cardboard box with a video camera to monitor the light output over time. Power-failure lights are designed to keep their batteries charged from a wall plug and to automatically turn on after an AC power failure; the power-failure light can be removed from the wall socket and used as a portable flashlight.

Lots of Chains flashlight show wrong or fake lumens. LEDs are the best option as they are significantly brighter than incandescent bulbs and use less energy.
